Apples are nature’s convenience snack that is both healthy and refreshing at the same time. Apples are a good source of fibre, which is pectin fibre to be accurate. They don’t have much vitamin C, but due to it being so easy to pick up and eat as a snack, apples actually end up being a bigger contributor towards our diet compared to many other fruits.
There are many types of apples in the world, and it’s hard to imagine that all came from one type, the common wild apple. Different types of apples have different tastes. For example, Red Delicious has a sweet flavor while Granny Smith has a sour taste, and is often used in making apple sauce. Horticulturists have created the Bonza, which is a cross between the Red Delicious and the Granny Smith, and it has proven quite popular, having a unique taste and half-green-half-red colour.
The Fuji cultivar is another type of apple that has become a classic. Fuji apples are created from the Red Delicious and Ralls Janet cultivars. The Fuji is best eaten fresh.
